Being stuck at home doesn’t necessarily have to be a bad thing to endure, especially if you have these non-essentials to keep you company.
10 Non-Essential Things That Makes Lockdown Living Fun
1. A nice and comfy chair
Wouldn’t it be nice to spend a nice quiet afternoon on a leather recliner chair by the window in full view of the beauty of Singapore, or perhaps a comfortable L-couch to share with the family as you enjoy hanging out doing nothing together?
2. Netflix!
I don’t know about you, but Netflix is a lifesaver. I cannot imagine being holed up at home without it. With most folks stuck at home with their families, Netflix has been such a boon that it has kept the kids occupied which leaves parents room to get some work done. That and the internet.
3. Snacks. Lots of it.
What’s a person to do when you’re stuck at home with nothing better to do? While a lot of people were initially worried about not getting enough to eat during quarantine, social media says otherwise.
A lot of food posts have been flooding IG and Facebook recently about people learning to cook or working on new recipes. Sure, not everything’s healthy but if it brings some sense of comfort and as long as they’re able to keep their health in check then it’s all good.
4. Reading materials
One thing that most of us have taken for granted in this digital age are books, magazines, and other reading materials where you actually have to flip pages and not swipe on screens.
There’s nothing like holding a piece of literature in your hands and enjoying the texture and smell of the pages. It brings back nice heartwarming childhood memories.
5. Gaming console or computer
Simply because you decide to go back to the basics with books doesn’t mean you have to deprive yourself of some form of digital entertainment.
Playing video games can help you amuse yourself and make the time pass a bit faster. Whether you choose to play on a PlayStation or a hardcore gaming PC, spending a few hours playing fun video games is sure to cheer you up.
6. A hobby
Hobbies, while not exactly objects, are things we need to keep our sanity intact. Some people bake, while others take photos. There are also those who tinker with toys or cars. Whatever it is, a hobby is a form of stress relief that gives one a sense of enjoyment and fulfillment, even control at a time where our control over things is scarce.
7. A nice comfortable pair of slippers
Since you’re going to be spending a lot of time at home indefinitely, it would be nice to be able to get around the house in a nice fluffy pair of slippers that can give your feet a bit of pampering and cushion.
8. Cozy comforter and bedsheets
Since you no longer need to wake up early to go to work, it would be nice to spend an extra hour or two under soft and fluffy sheets and comforters.
It’s okay. There’s no need to feel guilty. Sleep in. Go ahead.
9. Good quality Bluetooth speakers
When your eyes are tired from all the reading and screentime you’re getting from your work, Netflix, and social media, why don’t you give your eyes the rest they deserve and listen to songs that make you feel great.
Open a music streaming app and connect your device to a Bluetooth speaker set and dance your heart out.
10. Pillows everywhere!
Who doesn’t love pillows? Imagine pillows in every corner of your home. Wherever you choose to hang out — the living room, the breakfast nook, the patio, the home office — having a pillow or two within arm’s reach instantly brings some sort of comfort.
Getting stuck at home may suck but thanks to these little non-essential things, you’re able to get through it in one piece.
